More About Us
The Culturfied Foundationoffers global education services and supports existing programs in line with our mission and goals. The foundation helps participants nurture a global mindset by fostering intercultural learning, and enhancing knowledge of and appreciation for cultures, traditions, places and people groups other than one’s own. Our work changes the lives of participants by opening eyes to a bigger world around them, and helping them prepare to become productive and responsible global citizens.
Culturfied Foundationfosters cross-cultural understanding, exposing participants to the traditions and rich cultural heritage of many nations. We promote education through discovery, education, creativity, and the wonder of experiencing the world beyond your own community and country.
The Foundation’ssignature education program, Culturfied Kids, encourages middle school students to learn to become responsible, empathetic citizens of the world, by fostering friendships and cross-cultural dialogue with children from different ethnic and geographical backgrounds than their own, and teaching lessons that seek to strengthen and deepen understanding between cultures and peoples by celebrating our dynamic differences while uncovering important traits that bind all humanity.

Mele Melton came to the US as a teenager, quickly finding and pursuing her passion for learning about other cultures. She soon joined multicultural groups and help organize a multicultural showcase in high school. In college, she reluctantly decided to pursue a degree and career in finance over anthropology, on the advice of a counselor who thought finance offered better odds of financial success. After graduation, she embarked on a successful finance career. Soon after, she moved to DC and started attending cultural events, where she was met with the same spark of excitement she felt while pursuing her love of multicultural studies in high school.
In 2009, Melton launched Culturfied.com, a social networking site and community forum where members were asked to share their cultures and learn about others. The project continues to grow and encourage global learning, but Melton wanted to make even more significant impacts in the global education arena. Thus, she formed the Culturfied Foundation, dedicated to increasing cultural awareness and creating new and better opportunities for DC-area students to be exposed to other world cultures in a positive and life-enhancing way.
Melton holds a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Finance from Temple University’s Fox School of Business and Management, a Master of Business Administration in International Business from the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business & Economics, and is an active PhD candidate. With her husband, she owns Five Guys Burgers and Fries and Taco Bell franchises in Atlanta, Georgia. In her spare time, she enjoys trying new restaurants, traveling, attending sporting events (especially basketball, which she played in high school) and shopping.
